The UK Future of Flight Action Plan, Explained for Operators

A practical read of the UK's Future of Flight action plan: milestones, the 2028 piloted air taxi ambition, and what it means for London vertiport development.

The Future of Flight action plan, published jointly by the Department for Transport, the CAA and the Future of Flight Industry Group, sets out the UK's staged ambition for drones and piloted electric air taxis.

What it commits to

The plan sequences regulatory enablers — vertiport standards, airspace modernisation, BVLOS drone corridors — against demonstration milestones rather than open-ended aspiration. For eVTOL specifically, the emphasis is piloted commercial service first, autonomy much later.

Why London is the natural first corridor

London already has heliport infrastructure, controlled airspace management expertise at NATS, and the highest willingness-to-pay density in Europe. Every enabling workstream lands here first.
